Now what do I do?

Teaching an integrated curriculum may not be too difficult for those of us who are just coming into teaching, because in school it is so rammed down our throats, it seems like it would be near impossible to do anything else. We don't know any other way of teaching and we haven't been taught any better. Even with all of that to hold us up, integrated curriculum is a bit overwhelming when you're just looking at it straight out of the top. I found a couple of websites below that can help us future teachers as we go into the world of modern day education.

Integrated Games

Integrating curriculum in your classroom does not have to be difficult...in fact, it can be quite fun! I recently presented in class about brain teasers teachers can do at the beginning of the lesson that are not only fun, but can help children use valuable learning techniques and hone in on skills that will help them in a variety of subjects! I have included links to these below:

http://brainden.com/
http://www.pedagonet.com/brain/brainers.html
http://walch.com/Daily-Warm-Ups-Math-Brain-Teasers-I-Grades-5-8.html

Brain teasers are such an easy way to get the minds started and prepare students for the kind of thinking they will need for many subject areas. It is also a good way for a teacher to integrate a specific topic into many different subject areas.

The way I see it, whatever helps the children learn the best and enjoy the experience!

Introduction

Well hello there!  In order to fulfill criteria for an assignment, and to give a little information, I will be dedicating this blog to a few posts about integrated curriculum!  For anyone who may not know, integrated curriculum is simply the idea of using aspects from different subjects together to enhance the learning potential and level of understanding.  In common core, it is required in order for students to able to break down the barriers that have typically separated different subject matters.

In future blog posts, I will be exploring different ways to integrate curriculum and link to resources that you can read in order to implement integration into your classroom or future classroom! I will be gathering these resources through individual research I will conduct, but a large amount of the information will come from presentations my classmates have done on integrated strategies.

The first info I will leave you with, is a quote from our book, Meeting Standards Through Integrated Curriculum, and a link where you can find info on the book and purchase it yourself!

"What exactly is integrated curriculum? In its simplest conception, it is about making connections." Found here.
